High Borrans Monday

Hi, folks. We've arrived at High Borrans and are very much looking forward to our exciting week here. Our aim is to get every child to add to this blog over the course of the week so that we can share some of the amazing things we are doing.

We can't post pictures at the moment but we're working on it! Keep checking the blog as we'll update it every evening.

Jack says: we have climbed a hill (very hard) and interesting; we ate a fresh blackberry (lush);
can't wait until tomorrow fabulous!!

Ben says: to day has been very good we went on a really long walk and we climbed up a realy big hill. And I can't wait till tomorrow.

Lana says: High Borrans is fun! Today we went on a long walk which I enjoyed. We saw some rare sheep and I've got a wobbly tooth.

Olivia would like to announce: High Borrans is very homely and comfortable and a very nice place to be. I would give the food 5 stars because it is very nice but poor Mr Corbishley didn't get any pepperoni pizza-ha ha! I can't wait for tomorrow's activities.

Adam declared: the bedrooms are bigger than I expected. I like the bunkbeds because I don't normally get to sleep in a room with my friends.

Jemma says: we've got an en-suite!!! How cool?! The park on the way here was fun and we just missed the torrential rain.

Corey wanted to add: High Borrans is amazing!!

Eco Day

Thank you to everyone who came along today to help get the school eco garden and surrounding grounds in shape. The effort from everyone was fantastic and the eco garden and other areas around school are looking brilliant. Thank you also to everyone who brought food for the big event- we had burgers, hotdogs, spicy chicken, the most amazing spring rolls you'll ever taste and a brilliant thai curry so we were all well fed! We are very lucky to have such a strong community spirit here at St. Cuthebrt's.

St. Cuthbert's Parish News

St. Cuthbert's Parish council have asked us to pass on dates of their forthcoming events.
They will be holding a Diamond jubilee Afternoon Tea Party at the church on Monday 4th June at 2.30pm. Tickets for the event will be £3 each.
St. Cuthbert's Summer Fayre will take place 23rd June at 12noon.

Busy Week!

We have a very busy week coming up as we approach half term. We are having the grand opening of our Eco Garden on Thursday and to help make it a special day we will be having a picnic lunch on the school field. Children aer asked to bring a packed lunch to school with them, if you have already paid a full week for kunches and provide a packed lunch for your childthen you will only need to pay for four days on our first week back (Monday 11th June). The kitchen staff will also be providing a packed lunch for any children who receive free school meals. Mrs Brown will be making some special biscuits for the children to mark the day.

Non Uniform Jubilee Day

Friday is non-uniform day and we'd like to have a red, white and blue theme to mark the Queen's Jubilee. The children are asked to donate a bottle on teh day and all donations will go towards the PTFA led school fayre later next half term. Mrs Brown in the kitchen will be making some extra special short bread for the day as well.

First Communions

We had glorious weather for our First Communions last Saturday morning at St. Cuthbert's Church. The mass was beautiful and the children all loked very smart in their dresses and shirts and ties. There are many people to thank for making it such a special day, the musicians, Father Peter, the catechists, the parents who did the breakfasts, staff from school and parents and families for helping prepare their children for the sacrament.

High Borrans

Our Yr 5 & 6 children had a fantastic weekend at high Borrans and arrived back safe and sound yesterday afternoon. Thank you to the staff and parents who gave up their weekend to take the children and supervise them whilst there and thank you to the brilliant staff at High Borrans who provide the children with such well organised and supervised activities.

Final Day At High Borrans

Well our final day has arrived and we're all set to have breakfast and go on a long walk which we're told has some spectacular views. The weather is still amazing. Everyone has tidied out their rooms and packed their bags- we'll be bringing plenty of washing home!

Sunday, 27 May 2012

Day Three At High Borrans

We've had another brilliant day and the weather has stayed beautiful. Our groups all swapped activities today so anyone who did canoing and absailing yesterday went caving today and vise versa. People in the canoes even had the chance to turn their canoes into submarines! The caving was excellent and we made it through some tight spaces under the Ribblehead Viaduct. We also saw loads of motor bikes on their way to meet up at Kirkby Lonsdale- it looks very impressive. Tonigh we're doing the night line and having a camp fire and tomorrow we're going on a walk up a mountain!

Day Two At High Borrans

We arrived at High Borrans early yesterday morning and got straight into our activities. We went canoing and mountain river scrambling- everyone got soaked and it turned in to a massive water fight- brilliant!! The food is lovely and we've got loads of choice. The staff are wonderful as well and are helping us all try out new things.

School Hockey Team

Well done to our hockey team who competed in the North Tyneside Catholic Schools hockey competition at
St. Thomas More Academy this week. Our team, managed by Mrs Hughes and playing in their first competition
did themselves proud and came third! Well done to all involved.

End Of Key Stage SATs

Our Year 6 children will be taking their statutory end of Key Stage tests, more usually referred to as SATs, during the
week starting Monday 14th May 2012 and finishing on Friday 18th May. All Year 6 children in the country will be
taking the tests at the same time and it is vitally important that the children are in school, on time and for the full week.
We will be arranging a meeting for Year 6 parents to outline our revision programme for the children and ways in
which you can help early in the next half term. Can I please ask that parents don't book holidays for the children
during this week. Our Year 2 children will begin their SATs during the week beginning Monday 7th May 2012. We
will be holding a Year 2 parents meeting to let you know what we do during SATs week early in the next half term.
Again, can I please ask that parents avoid taking holidays during the week of the SATs.

BBC2 500 WORDS

A lot of our children are taking part in the BBC 2 500 Words Story Competition through the BBC website.
Details of the competition can be found on the BBC website at
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/500words/2012/submit-your-story/.ill  We will give children time in school to use the
ICT suite to type out their stories if they need it. The closing date for the competition is Thursday 1st March 2012.

Question Of The Week

We have been using our Monday morning assembly in school to read and discuss the previous Sunday's Gospel
reading. At the end of the assembly we have a whole school 'Question Of The Week' which asks the children to
think of some aspect of that Gospel and how it relates to their lives. The children then revisit the question in their
classes during the week when they plan and lead liturgies in small groups. I will start putting the question at the top
of our newsletters and you can ask them what they chatted about.

Friday Night Fever

Ticket sales are going well for Friday Night Fever the family fancy dress fun night organised by the PTFA for Friday 24th February 7.30pm~11pm at the North Shields Terminus Club. There will be prizes for the best fancy dress and lots of dancing and games. Dust down your flares and get your tickets which are available from the Foundation Stage staff or from members of the PTFA and cost £1.50 per adult and 50p per child.

Parents Evening

Thank you to everyone who came along to our parents open evening last Tuesday night, there was a fantastic turnout. The relationship between families and school is one of the most important factors in a child's education and our parents drop in sessions are a brilliant way of making and keeping strong links between families and school.

Telephone Arrangements

Our telephone line is still out of order. If you would like to contact school you can do so by email or on 0191 200 5073.

Telephone Problems

Apologies to anyone who was trying to contact school by telephone this afternoon, we have a fault on our telephone line and have had a BT engineer investigating the issue through the afternoon. When you call us at  school you will hear the normal phone dialling tone at your end but the call isn't being connected through to school so our phones aren't ringing.  The problem seems to be with the line outside school on Lovaine Place. The engineer will be returning to work on the line on Monday morning and hopefully everything will be fixed then. You can still try to get us on the usual number but if the phone appears to be ringing with no reply you can either call into school or email us at stcuthberts.primary@northtyneside.gov.uk and we'll get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding.
